Jowcha is a program for editing American-style crosswords. It is free and open-source software released under an MIT license.

Besides basic operations like defining the grid, fill, and clues, Jowcha supports guided fill. More specifically, the program will

At any point, the user may opt to auto-fill the entire grid to see what solution Jowcha has found.

The default wordlist is based on the free list from Crossword Nexus. Scores were added to that list based on their frequency in the Brown corpus of English.


To use Jowcha, download and extract the latest version and run the .jar file inside. You will need to install Java first if you haven't already.
